From business model to financial cycle: the plateau

The key financial ratios appear step-by-step, along with your company's indicators and data.

The tool :

We offer a version of this Plexiglas tray with rotating moving components.

On the tray is a diagram representing an intuitive, step-by-step approach to financial logic based on cash flow.

Details :

No rules to learn. Instant start-up!

1 - Identify the 4 central pieces of the game board:

    • Capital invested
    • Capital employed
    • Sales figures
    • Operating income

2 - Discover the balance sheet and working capital requirements :

Using your group's data, reconstitute and calculate the 4 elements of the simplified balance sheet (CP, Debt, WCR and Net Fixed Assets) and acquire the first "rewards" of the game in the form of figures (platinum, gold, silver, bronze) which will be used for the rest of the game.

3 - Mastering the income statement and margins :

From the group income statement, reconstitute and calculate the 3 operating balances (sales, EBIT and net income) and acquire "rewards" in the form of numerical data (platinum, gold, silver, bronze) which will also be used later.

4 - Make the link between balance sheet, income statement and cash :

Link each transaction to one of the financial cycle arrows on the game board.

5 - Use the main indicators to measure operational performance :

Calculate KPIs using combinations of elements on the board, and acquire "rewards" in the form of numerical KPI magnet labels (platinum, gold, silver or bronze).

This typical route can be customized by adding steps specific to your business.

For example: understanding the impact of long-term project management (percentage-of-completion accounting): Risks and impacts on results linked to incorrect budgets and/or declarations of completion.

We have deployed this tool with several non-financial populations in major groups, and it has proved its clarity, logic and attractiveness.

The 7 families of management

Purpose:

Introduce all your staff to the specifics of economic management in a fun way.

Details:

The drawing cards are each unique and serve as a teaser for the course, representing simple concepts such as sales, personnel costs, inventory, cash, etc.).

An original approach that places training within a timeframe, enabling communication between two sometimes distant stages of a training project (launch, announcement, pilot, progressive deployment, refresher training are stages that can be spread over several months).

  • Prior to the training session, participants are given the cards in several shipments, and invited to put families together. The effect of a collection to be progressively completed creates emulation.
  • During the training sessions, the cards are reused during the financial statement presentation sequences.
  • Participants are then invited to reposition the cards on the financial statement masks in their correct position, i.e. facing the label corresponding to their content.
